Like our new name, our new logo reflects what we do – our program “re-collects” a wide variety of historical resources from collections around the state into a single (virtual) access point. Rounded up in one place, these diverse materials can lead to new ways of exploring, experiencing, and understanding Wisconsin’s past.
Our new logo was created by graphic designer Dan Saal of StudioSaal Corporation. Dan selected images for the logo based first on their graphic qualities – would the images still look great when cropped and shrunk dramatically? – but also with an eye towards capturing the breadth of materials, time periods, subjects, and locations found in the collections we bring together.
The images that made the final cut come from collections held in Green Bay, Kenosha, La Crosse, Madison, and Milwaukee; touch on topics ranging from war to dairy farming to steamships on the Great Lakes; span the 1820s through the 1920s; and include photographs as well as maps and illustrations. Here’s a closer look at each source:
